MY FIRST TRIP TO THE ROOF

Clay has provided me with a list of shipping container tasks that I need to complete before he returns in March of 2022. One such task was to check if the roof had any leaks, and after a week or so of heavy rain, I went into the container to find a small spot of moisture. Not big at all, maybe the size of a silver dollar.

Today, with a clear, warm, and sunny day, my mission was to make my way up to the roof with a can of Flex Seal Clear. Well, out comes the Little Giant Multi-17 Ladder. I can set the thing up by myself, but I am not comfortable climbing it with someone else around. That’s where our friend Jacquelyn Bryant comes in. She’s over in ten minutes, holding the ladder for me, and I’m up there in a few seconds.

Clay has warned me that the roof buckles and pops with weight on it, and YES, IT DOES. A lot. But I get to the rear of the container where I suspect the leak is coming from. There are two possible spots, one which looks like it has previously been patched and another that looks like a thin crack. I Flex Seal them both and am back down in 5 minutes.

The Flex Seal says to use multi-coats each 24 to 48 hours, so if the weather remains clear I may just be up there again tomorrow. I’ll Flex Seal from the inside of the container on what we’d consider the ceiling and that should seal it.
