I do not know how resistant a four-and-a-half-ton (plus the weight of framing, insulation, drywall and furnishings) steel box would be to the winds of a hurricane or tornado, both of which are possible here in southwest Mississippi. Eventually our three containers will be welded together, which will presumably add to their stability in a major weather event, but we decided to go a step further and try to anchor them to the ground, or at least to the concrete piers on which they sit.
The plan we devised was to weld the container bases to steel plates embedded in the concrete piers. My welding talents are basic, but the hope is that every little bit will help in a natural disaster. I covered this in detail in an earlier post.
So with the first container in place I put my elementary welding skills into play, doing a not-too-terrible job of it. Not TOO terrible.
